I have nikon 80-200mm f2.8 ED gen iii lens..and absolutely outstanding perform lens for headshot. I love it.
VR...? I don't need that much, for my assigment project i usually use a tripod and shot 1/100s or higher shutter speed.
Anyway..Nice additional stand for your reflector fill Rafal. 😍😍😘😘

I did the same exchange but the old lense focusing speed drove me crazy, at the time I was doing high school graduations wish I had it back.

In most of your headshots one side of the model is in shadow. How do you achieve that? Is the room darkened or do you use camera settings? It seems to me that with the large softbox lights and reflector, virtually all of the model would be brightly lit.

As an autofocus lens this isn't really your typical "vintage" lens, as I presumed from the title you would be using an old manual focus lens on a modern digital body. I started out as a sports photographer with that lens and made some of my best images on location and in the studio with it. The optics in this generation and all subsequent generations are excellent, and your right that there's much difference as a portrait lens between it and the VRII lens.

I'd go for the twist focus next generation for around 350 dollars rather than the push-pull. Not only does it acquire focus rather quickly, but with the aperture ring it will work on all Nikon film bodies as well as today's digital bodies. Wish I hadn't sold mine and will acquire another one some day in the future.

I have that lens. Great image quality! Love it. It is heavy, slow focusing and eats up battery power if you are refocusing a lot. But it is worth it to me for the quality. You just have to take a little more time. And buy an extra battery. Sometimes shooting a tad bit slower can be a hidden plus. Thanks for this comparison video...I've always wondered how the 80-200 compares to the 70-200.

I have occassionally used the Nikon 180mm 2.8 for headshots as well. Its an awesome cheap prime. Do check it out

Thank you for sharing your work. I follow your blogs as I was curious about Dylan Patrick's style. The title is partly misleading, as there is no vintage lens involved. My suggestion would be to minimise the storytelling and deliver more succinct videos. I always feel I have to wait too much for the valuable content. For my taste, the edited version looks beautiful but over retouched to the point where the skin appears unrealistically smooth. Why do that if she has already retouched herself with make-up? Your wife is definitely a beautiful woman but she doesn't look like that in person, even with make-up. I'm sure that women would love such results, though.
