Sometimes, the stars align, our guards come down, and we connect more deeply with someone than we knew we could. The spark of light within another's heart is seen even if only for a moment, be it a phone call, or a couple of hours on an airplane or a bus. These moments catch us by surprise - somehow, it's been a while since we've been so present to another person and them to us. Turns out we needed this bus ride on the nighttime highway to put away our phones and be carried along for a moment, to take our heads out of our work and day-to-day responsibilities. The moment is fleeting and we want to hang onto it before it slips away... we want to cherish the warmth, vulnerability, and gentle attentiveness. Losing Track of Time captures such a moment between two acquaintances on a long bus ride home.

Lyrics:
The show is over, it’s time to wind down
I’m a little tired on the bus into town
You ask if you can join me, coming in from the aisle
There’s a softness in your eyes where I could rest a while

I tell you about the one I love, and our sweet baby girl
you smile and say, “I know what you mean, it’s love from another world”
I share the times I’ve felt alone, the times I’ve felt at home
And I see you seeing me, like a friend I’ve always known

Some nights the fog rolls in, we can't make out the stars
Tonight the sky let down its guard
We are specks of stardust, little lights on a vine
holding on to every minute and losing track of time

You tell me about your demons, you tell me about your dreams
How you moved to the city when you were seventeen
You tell me about the one you love, you don’t wanna see her hurt
Your voice gets soft and tender, I feel your love for her

Some nights the fog rolls in, we can't make out the stars
Tonight the sky let down its guard
We are specks of stardust, little lights on a vine
holding on to every minute and losing track of time

Light from the street lamps falls through the trees
like sand through our fingers, scattered by the breeze
moments like these help me to believe
in a love worth weaving
into a constellation of every human heart

Some nights the fog rolls in, we can't make out the stars
Tonight the sky let down its guard
We are specks of stardust, little lights on a vine
holding on to every minute and losing track of time

What a rare thing of beauty! I just love the ebb and flow of the layered instruments and the hint of Joni Mitchell in Linda's voice. Thanks!

Lovely playing by all - I'm especially fond of the sound & effect of the banjo & its tempo here. And the gorgeous harmonies. I liked the song already - love the lyrics & their importance. Here's to such soft eyes & a readiness to lower guards! (For me there's no 'maybe' about the widespread depth of need for such 'bus rides on the nighttime highway'.) Thanks very much to all involved!
