I got accepted into UMass Amherst and I am currently a freshman majoring in Chemical Engineer

University of Massachusetts Amherst is one of my top schools and getting into the school is something I want to do. I’m a senior applying for the 2023 cycle and in terms of academics I’ve gotten a 3.7/4 GPA (not sure if it’s weighted) and I’ve take a total of 4 college courses with 2 more coming this spring. My school does not offer AP or IP course or a foreign language but it is waived by schools in state. I go to a vocational school and have won a bronze and gold metal in competitions realizing my trade (state level) and I am the secretary of the club involving this (In my school). I have also had participation in other clubs involving student council, peer leadership, FBLA, and a sport (possibly 2). Going to a trade school I am somewhat insecure when it comes to college and hope I’m not judged for that fact. In the school I’ve gotten the opportunity to learn CAD along with programming/running prototrak and CNC machines while even working in industry making aerospace parts. As a student applying do you think I could be competitive in the applications?

Amherst is a village. Though it is one and a half hour away from Boston and 4 hours away ( by road travel) from New York, living in this place is bit sad experience. Especially if the kid is introvert and not very outgoing. The place in itself is remote, offers nothing in terms of social life . In winters, the kid might find himself lonely in a room and get depressed. Not sure if they give 100% scholarships. My son requested some waiver as we were having financial crunch when I lost my husband to long battle of brain lung cancer, depleting us substantially. But never heard from them on this.
Regarding food, Indian kids don’t get much of Indian food there. And soon kids get bored of even five star rated food facilities.

After they excepted me with mediocre credentials, I though everyone that applied got in. This video makes it seem like it is super competitive or selective or something. Literally if you go to a local cc near-by, it is garantee acceptance if you pass all your classes (by pass, I mean C minus or higher).
