Family Vocabulary: Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Grandma
Family vocabulary is very important and essential to introduce family members to toddlers and kids. They need to know about relations and specific words to talk about families. “Mum” and “Dad” are the most basic words that a toddler learns to speak and you might not think of it as something important enough to be taught. But, in actual it is essential to introduce the proper vocabulary for mum, dad and all other family members.
Family vocabulary can be introduced with the help of family member videos for kids or family member songs. One of the most effective methods of teaching family vocabulary is as follows:
1. Make a Family Tree

Make a large family tree, on a wall, activity board or the whiteboard, illustrating all closest family members, including; father, mother, sisters, brothers, grandmother, grandfather and any close uncles or aunts (customize the tree according to your family if you are homeschooling). On each branch place, a picture of a family member and clearly write the title. Climb the tree slowly and clearly with your students. Make sure they understand the meaning, relation, and pronunciation of every word.

2. Introduce a Cut and Paste Activity

When you are sure that the students understand the family tree, reinforce the family vocabulary by drawing another tree but leave the title spaces blank. Print all the titles on a separate page. Now ask the students to cut and paste the titles in the right place. Also ask the kids to read the titles to check their pronunciation.

3. Different Vocabulary For One Member

In the English language there are several different names used for one family member, for example; Grandmother, Grandma, Granny, Nana etc. to teach these titles make columns for each family member. Now make some cards for all the alternate names for one title. Show the cards to students than ask them to place the cards in the right columns.

These three steps will help in reinforcing and clearing the confusion about all kinds of family vocabulary in kids
