Are your students great at extending patterns but when it comes to creating patterns all you get are blank stares? I know my class is! lol This is the perfect patterns activity that is highly visual and has helped our students in creating patterns tremendously! This pattern activity has 2 varied prompt levels: ABC prompts and no prompts.

What makes this patterning activity ideal for children with special needs or learning difficulties?
For example AB patterns:
- Have the student select which image is A and which image is B
- Begin with the worksheet WITH prompts.
- Students can use the AB prompts above each box as a visual indicator of matching the image for A and the image for B. Since students with special needs often begin with matching as a goal, they should have mastered this skill and would be successful with this activity!
- Practice patterning with the other worksheets with prompts for ABB pattern, AAB pattern, ABC pattern etc
- Once they have mastered the other pattern rules, then they can move on to the worksheet WITHOUT prompts
