As far as I know, the extra tarifs on Chinese EVs are to prevent them from flooding the market (as they are heavily subsidised by the chinese gov.)
The EU is increasing tariffs as well.

Those "smart" Japanese manufacturer's were forced to make a percentage of their cars in the US in order to be allowed to import cars from Japan to the US. They didn't want to do it. The US Government imposed Trade Limits and insisted on some domestic assembly. Now it's just the final assembly. Most of the engines and transmissions come over in boxes ready to be slapped together in the car. They still make the internal engines components in Japan or at least they did. Probably some of those parts were outsourced to China or South Korea or Vietnam too.

My 2012 Tacoma while one of my favorite trucks, "off-gassed" for years after purchase. It would leave a blue film on the inside glass. This would happen within a month of cleaning the windows. I got in the habit of cracking a window, and it helped to a degree. I've never owned another vehicle that had that bad a problem.

Australia suddenly our car industries for a long time and now we don't have a car industries anymore so we import vehicles from overseas but the price still is going up. What a joke 😢

Scotty, I think you are wrong about Elon. Just purchased one of the 375 sf house as a place for my wife's aging mother (93 yrs young) It's perfect and was under $20k !

A 25% tariff should be plenty to protect local auto manufacturers from going bankrupt which could leave a country defenseless in a war, while still allowing competition.

By the way, Elon DOES live in those tiny houses, he has one on-site at most of his factories so he can stay there when he's doing a lot of work there for whatever reason.
