Hucklebuck – Brendan Bowyer (Stereo)

Extracted Audio Remix.

High energy rendition of a dance tune composed in 1949 by U.S. jazzman, Andy Gibson.

The label on this Columbia release dropped ‘The’ from the original song title to a simple ‘Hucklebuck’, with the recording performance credited to ‘Brendan Bowyer and the Royal Showband Waterford’.

This was a number one seller for Brendan in his home country of Ireland and peaked at #4 in Australia during the winter of 1965 (as national charts were not compiled in 1965, this ranking was retrospectively published following an analysis of available chart runs and retail sales).

Unfortunately, currently available sources of the original mono recording are of insufficient quality to improve this remix version.

Australia release date: Mid 1965.
Highest chart position: #1 (Melbourne)

My parents saw the Royal many times in the 60s and i still have their original records from that era and they are like a checklist of the great bands. Their favourite ballroom was the Arcadia Ballroom in Portrush. A favourite activity, for some, on a Sunday morning was going out onto the beach with an army surplus metal detector. The quest was finding treasure in the form of the occasional engagement ring that had been thrown into the sea. The Arcadia Ballroom was literally a few steps from the sea. This was not the case for my parents but it was the case for one of mums friends!!!
