Toni Girones
(Badalona, 1965)
PhD architect by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in 2016 with the doctoral thesis: "Spontaneous architectures, reflections on constants in architecture: the peninsula of Cap de Creus, a topography in time". (Qualification: Excellent cum laude), and architect by the School of Architecture of Vallés in 1992, where he is professor of projects until 2005. Since then, until today he has been responsible for the architectural studies (2005-12), as well as coordinator and professor of first and third cycle of the degree (2005-16 and 2017-21), at the School of Architecture of Reus – URV. Since 1993, his professional career has been recognized with numerous awards, publications and exhibitions, including the Premi Joves Arquitectes of Catalonia in 1996, several FAD Awards, three Iberoamerican Biennals, the Spanish Biennal, the Domus International Award, and most recently the Spanish Architecture Award and the Special Prize of the Ibero-American Biennial, both in 2019. Nominations for the Mies van der Rohe, Borromini and Swiss Award, as well as three participations in the Venice Biennale and a monographic exhibition at the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel, are other highlights of his career.
He understands architecture as an element of mediation that optimizes the conditions of the place, proposing, from the different project processes, a habitability that interacts in harmony with the four natural elements.
His work has been published in different specialized magazines: Aitim, Dau, Amc, Quaderns, Coam, Tectònica, Pasajes, On, Arquitectura Iberica, 041, Arquine, Spazio e Società, Obradoiro, Av, Her&Mus, Architecture & Art, The Architectural Review, Domus, Lotus, Detail, Bauwelt, Conarquitectura, Arquitectura Viva, A + U, Arketipo, Casabella, El Croquis.
