I'm a former driving instructor, and I had a few students that were big into simracing. They picked up driving a manual SUPER quickly. Yeah, it's not exactly like a real car, but you can learn all the hard parts in a sim, and then just refine it as it applies to a real car.

Same for me on the Nordschleife. I live quite near to the track and drove around it in the sim many many times before going there in real life. Just Touristenfahrten not an actual race ofc. It was actually almost jarring how at home I felt straight away. Knowing every corner and every kerb when you've never actually been there before was weird but also a big advantage. I felt confident that nothing would really surprise me.

You can't judge how accurate a sim is unless you model the car in the sim to your real life car data. I'm sure if you went back to the sim you could modify the setup to make it feel a lot closer to what you felt in real life.

Please more of this content, whenever you can do sim vs real videos I'm totally in to watch from start to finish. My mate is mad into sim rig building spending as little as possible, his setups are made from 80% hard rubbish and some cleaver techniques that in my opinion are hands down more simulated experience than nearly every setup I see on YOU TUBE, expect for very few.
especially love local Aussie content.
I guess i will have to watch one of your videos showing your setup now, I so hope I'm not going to see parts of a building visible, cos 4 me that's so urrgh more playing a computer game and so far from simulation, but each to there own

Pretty cool of The Bend to oficially support their tracks in AC (even if it's like $20 per config) and that iRacing scanned it too. Would love to see more tracks acknowledge sim racing soon and in the future.

Congrats! I did a similar thing over 10+ years ago and hearing what you said about shifting reminds me that I had a fair amount of difficulty getting the car into specific gears back then. Maybe in a few years there will be active shifters!

that’s awesome. fellow melbournian. i spent about 20 hours learning the track at sandown using Iracing and to my surprise, i was half decent on the track. i wish there were more tracks in vic where we can go and test out our sim racing skills on a proper track. ie. Albert Park….

Awesome, I drove the West track at the bend in a mustang drive day! West track is amazing fun. loved it. cant wait for iracing to release it. Racing in the V8VETS league in the supercars will be spectacular. home track with the bend and adelaide to come! Love it! Iracing is as close as i will ever get to real racing. Addictive! I love heel and toe, its hypnotic to watch. Great racing and well done for going at it in real life!
