How To Master GRE Vocabulary | Expert Tips & Tricks

If you're studying for the GRE, you know how important a strong vocabulary is to your success on the Verbal section. Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence, which directly test vocabulary knowledge, make up about half of all Verbal questions. And that isn't taking into account the many Reading Comprehension passages and questions that feature difficult vocabulary that can impact comprehension.

But more than that, based on PrepScholar research, we believe nearly 50% of Verbal questions tagged as “hard” by ETS test your vocabulary knowledge. These questions often feature words that are considered low-frequency (or not regularly used in everyday life) and known by few native English speakers and even fewer non-native speakers.

So how can we overcome this major hurdle to reaching our goal GRE score? In this video, we'll talk about
1. The one thing more important on vocab questions than vocab itself
2. How to guess a word's meaning accurately (most of the time)
3. If you are going to study vocab, which words to study
4. And how to study vocabulary words for understanding, retention, and application

I rarely heard an English native speaking that explicit and sounding that clear .. as if English is my language ! Though she talks fast but the way she pronounces each word in an academic way it makes it easy to understand and by the way heard clearly .. I like her so much ..
I subscribe !

Knowing the roots of a word is really helpful in guessing the meaning.

A problem I am finding with roots is, well, that the GRE is very, very intelligently written. There are even root word traps. I currently have about a 40% success rate with roots on guessing the meaning of the word.

This video was really helpful. All the strategies mentioned seem very legit. I just wanted to understand if knowing just 300 words thoroughly will be good enough for the actual test.

All great advice tbh. I expand a bit on this on my GRE 340 channel, talking about etymology and how it helps memorisation.
