I am a European with a lot of relatives in the United States. When Ronald Reagen supported the crushing of unions, we saw the American middle class crumble. I said at the time that the development would end in tragedy, and that it was only a matter of when.
Europeans have learned a lot after World War 2. In particular, we are very aware of politicians who use rhetoric reminiscent of Hitler.
When we listened to Donald Trump in 2015, we already saw that he had something special. What was special was his way of talking about his political opponents, and that he never talked about real political plans. He only spoke vaguely, which he hoped some Americans would bite on. Both he and the rest of us were very surprised by the support around him, but then we came up with the development in the United States. They were looking for someone who would stand out and save it from the established political system.
That it should be a narcissist with strong ties to Nazism and authoritarian regimes was probably a coincidence. Nevertheless, he has become the one who, in eight years, has managed to divide a nation beyond recognition.
Tragically, millions of Americans went into believing that he was the savior, but unfortunately he is a tragic seducer, who is going to drive the United States into the ditch to gain power. That Americans think it's okay that he refers to veterans as losers is a mystery to me.
And what will he use the power for. His only plan is to persecute his political opponents, help criminals who support him, and not least save himself. The United States is completely subordinate to him, and now you may have four years to find out.
