One of the two Miramax co-productions with The Ladd Company along with 2007's Gone Baby Gone which was the company's final film. This is also The Ladd Company's first film since A Very Brady Sequel in 1996 which was also their final film with Paramount Pictures (Ladd formed a deal with Paramount in 1995 which was 10 years after they cut ties with Warner Bros. in 1985). They also worked with 20th Century Fox on 1981's Chariots of Fire and 1995's Braveheart. Fox had the international rights to these two films. The former was distributed by Warner Bros. in North America, and the latter was distributed by Paramount Pictures in North America.
