0:36 the bass throughout this pre chorus I noticed once stoned to the gills and it always adds the layer of sadness the lyrics have mixed within the otherwise almost pleasant melody

In my opinion, one of the greatest songs ever conceived. Everything fits together so perfectly, the guitars, synths, drums, his voice, the lyrics, all just work damn near perfectly. There are few songs released in the past few decades that accomplish this IMO

0:34 I love the transition into the pre chorus, the entrance of the keyboard octaves as well as the drums getting more aggressive. The guitar moves to the lower register and that bass part gives that layer of sadness to the song
