Analyzing Text Structure strengthens reading and writing skills. When we use the term text structure, we are referring to how the information in a text is organized. Good writers use effective text structures like cause and effect, compare and contrast, definition, narration, and process. Writers utilize specific text structures to communicate ideas effectively.
At Quindew, we explicitly teach 8 common text structures (or rhetorical patterns) and ask readers to identify and analyze how writers use them in texts. Identifying and analyzing text structures helps readers think deeply about the texts they are reading. As your child dives deeper into a text and starts thinking about how ideas are organized, comprehension improves. In fact, this deeper knowledge of a text also helps your child speak and write about information in a text in more complex ways.
This "Know how" video showcases reading tips, tricks, and strategies to help you support the reading skills your child is learning from Quindew.
Quindew is the perfect online reading program for homeschooling, classroom instruction, and public school families who want to give their children purposeful and challenging reading practice multiple times a week.
Quindew adapts to each reader by evaluating individual reading performance. Quindew selects the grade level texts that your child will feel most comfortable reading and then slowly pushes them up. If your child is reading at or above grade level, Quindew will quickly adapt by offering more challenging texts. Within a few Quests (reading lessons), Quindew will have your child reading at a level that best fits his/her reading needs at the time.
Children who fully engage in Quindew's reading process are growing .5 to 1 grade level in just 24 Quests. We know this growth is critical, especially for kids who are reading far below grade level mostly due to a lack of reading confidence. Quindew builds confidence and increases motivation to read more.
All of Quindew's supports are kid-centered. Quindew allows readers to choose from a menu of supports like on-demand video tutorials, tips, and vocabulary support. Quindew is ideal for homeschooling, distance learning, explicit classroom instruction, and targeted reading intervention.
Quindew's mission is to close the achievement gap through the intentional teaching of reading comprehension. We know that homeschool and public school parents want to know how to best help their children grow into confident, capable readers. This is why we created our "Know how" videos. We want our families feeling comfortable about the skills we teach in every Quindew Quest--the name we give to our reading lessons. By reinforcing the skills in Quindew, you help your child develop the habits of mind good readers have and strengthen their ability to read with high levels of success.
