Lewis Hamilton criticises FIA boss over 'racial' rap music-swearing comparison

Lewis Hamilton has criticised FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem for suggesting that Formula 1 drivers sound like "rappers" when using swear words over team radio.

Ben Sulayem said ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix that he is trying to make changes, so there is less bad language broadcast by FOM (Formula One Management), who have control over the world feed for all F1 sessions.

The FIA President told Autosport: "I mean, we have to differentiate between our sport - motorsport - and rap music.

"We're not rappers, you know. They say the F-word how many times per minute? We are not on that. That's them and we are [us]."

It was a weird comment, but there was no racial intention. Sulayem didn't specify black people, that was entirely Hamilton. He's the one who made it a racism case. And even so, the stereotype exists for a reason, you may not like it but it is the truth.

Whilst I do think its a stretch to call it racially motivated, the idea of "clearing up radio comms" is just childish. Emotions during a race are extremely valid and people should be able to express them.

Hamilton suffers from racial hypersensitivity. If there was any racial context to the Sulayem comment it is prejudice not racism becuse there is no element of power or systemic inequality. Due to Hamilton's racial hypersensitivity he himself provides the perfect example of prejudice; making the assumption that Sulaymen comment was racially loaded because Sulaymen is Arab.
