Huge Salamander in a Dry Florida Wetland!

preview_player
Показать описание
The first of three Two-toed Amphiumas flipped in a dry wetland in North Florida. These awesome salamanders seemed to be unfazed by the drought conditions in the region. When wetlands become completely devoid of moisture, they’re capable of aestivating and forming a mucus cocoon that retains moisture until the drought breaks. It seems the soil in this wetland currently retains enough moisture to make the fabled mucus cocoon unnecessary for the time being. Look for a full episode featuring these guys soon!

For those wondering this is an amphiuma and it is ok to be in an environment this dry bc it will make a slimy layer outside its skin to keep it moist

Genuinely shocked that amphiuma is hanging on. Hate to things are going so rough in the wetlands.

I really don’t like giant slimy things like bugs and salamanders cause it’s looks like they could just jump out of nowhere
