Scaling up the classic experiment of the ball in the funnel that has been a staple of science classrooms and a child's toy for years. It is a great demonstration of Bernoulli's principle and the Coanda effect and easy to demonstrate with larger materials.

A more detailed demonstration with examples and an explanation is in the works and will be posted in the near future

It doesn't work on the pumpkin because of the channels on its irregular surface.

Pumpkin has grooves which leak air which provide easy path for fast moving air. Grooves also provide much smaller surface area than the non-grooved parts would provide, so total lifting force remains too small.

Because the pumpkin isn’t fully round and it has lines for air to basically travel, so it those lines prevent gravity from doing its thing to pull it up like a basketball or something that’s specifically all around

The irregular surface of the pumpkin doesn't allow the succion effect of the air flow.

The ridges and surface of the pumpkin make it impossible to lift because the blower can't move the air around it equally.

Bernouli’s principle was able to apply enough force to the evenly round surface to lift them but not to the irregular surface of the pumpkin. Wonder if more air flow would be needed for the pumpkin? Thanks for sharing.

I guess you need some sort of laminar flow of air around the object and that ain't happening if the surface isn't smooth enough.

Needs a silicone or floppy flange on funnel so it can mould to the pumpkin ridge contours

Doh... message probably get removed for saying funnel could do with a floppy flange...!!!
