Mayerl - Green Tulips

Billy Mayerl's Green Tulips, written in 1935, is a so-called "Syncopated Impression", a term Mayerl was very fond of. It is based on a theme by Austen Croom-Johnson. I do not know if that is the main theme, which is nice but not really all that interesting, or the secondary theme (which I find utterly gorgeous), or both. This seems to be one of Mayerl's least known pieces, at least I could find only one performance of it on YouTube, which is by Eric Parkin (one of my favorite pianists). I hope my version can proudly stand up besides that one.

Superb playing, Chris! Oh, you transported me to heaven! Such a gorgeous piece of music and performed by you with such elegance and charm. If this is one of only two recordings to be found on YouTube, well, you get the gold and silver medal from me! B R A V O ! What more could anybody want than to listen to this for four minutes . . . time and time again?

Very well played Chris, he collaborated with Austen Croom -Johnson also Bats in The Belfry of course but this is not as well known. It's got echoes of some of his other pieces like Ace of Hearts and Evening Primrose. Keep them coming Chris!
