What causes it to de-fuel? Why does that happen?

430 to 440 foot pounds to the ground is about as good or better torque than the diesel half tons being built right now.

What is it about the Cummings that everyone swaps it?

You did great. The 6.9 and 7.3 idi were rated at 180hp at the crank. Your putting 170 to the wheels with less fuel, less cylinders, and more torque. The 5.0 v8 in that was rated at 185hp at the crank. The 300 6 was 145hp at the crank. That engine is plenty

But the alternative to these trucks are there original power plant the 5.0, 5.8 In the F150 models none of which these motors made over 250hp in the truck version exception to the ford lightning of these year model trucks

That motor should have been offered in a 1/2 ton from factory.

I made 173/336 on our dynojet with a bone stock other than fuel screw turned up 140hp non intercooled 4bt with a nv4500. Your dyno must be really stingy or that pump is weak or something.

These motors came stock in the F350 - in Brazil. I am running a 4bt in my 1942 Dodge Carryall - when I go out crawling on the weekend it costs me 15 -20 bucks, Same trip in my Chev trash truck costs about 80 bucks. Would I like a bit more power? Yep. I can run all day at 60 on the highway at 5 lbs of boost, but once I hit a hill the truck pretty much runs with the big rigs. Next upgrade I will shoot for is getting the intake air temp down and perhaps compound turbos. Interesting enough the exhaust temps dropped when I went from stock to an HX30 turbo, the temps may drop more with compounds. Only mod I have done to the pump is I machined up my own dynamic timing plate - That made the motor much quieter, enough that neighbours wanted commented that the truck was much quieter.
This is a tractor motor - really loud and vibrates like crazy - but the fuel milage is absurd. What I am looking for is some injectors that atomize the fuel better than the 30 year old ones it came with - there must be some advances over those years.
A bit like driving a big rig when using this block - from a stand still you are well into third gear before you cross an intersection :)

After several cases of miller lite and the luck of a 4bt with the ford bell pattern, we dropped it into a swb 2wd 85 f-150 with manual trans where a 300 6 came out. The truck came with a 3:55 open rear diff. No power mods to the 4bt bone stock the truck had more get up than those old pos 350 olds converted diesels as at the time dads old pos chevy 350 diesel was still rotting in the pasture i think gm replaced that engine 9 times and tiil this day i still won't but any gm junk. Back to the real truck it made 35 mpg at or below 65 mph. Take in mind it was no power house and you did not jump out in front of traffic as you would get your ass ran over. My friend who owned the truck drove it 55 miles one way to work for 8 years with the 4bt zero problems before he died. He claimed the truck had over 600, 000 miles on it when we pulled the tired 300 i6, but he bought the truck new and drove it back and forth to work for many years and bitched about the 16 mpg it got with the 300 engine. The 4bt we installed was brand new on a pallet that was in a flood, it had the water in it for about a month and a half when he got it for nothing. The factory pre lube grease did a fantastic job on protecting the inside of that engine as it was nearly totally rust free inside. Tore it down inspected cleaned and put back together with new gaskets sent pump and injectors off, reworked and reinstalled. I have a 1981 dodge van a very rare shorty with a slant 6 i bought months ago for a thinking about FOUR BEE TEEING IT if the funds allow but the slant has to go bye bye.
