The religious theme is at the heart of Riccardo Tisci's work and coexists with an equally intense erotic power. In this collection, the two souls --creatively obsessive -- of his "demons" coalesce surprisingly lightly. A designer with an incredible expressive talent, Tisci distils an image of beauty into its core elements of purity and austerity which is mellowed by the use of a light, serene and vivid chromatic palette. Duality doesn't disappear but asserts its presence in the coexistence, during the show, of sacred music -- played at the organ by Michel Lecomte imprisoned in an architectural wooden cage -- and techno music mixed by Berlin-based DJs Discodromo enclosed in a Mylar cube evoking a futuristic Ka'ba. Love the tunics, the assymetry, the slim pants, et al. As much as I enjoyed Givenchy's spring show, I can't say I'm at all excited about this spring in fashion overall. It's just so morose, on the whole. Not light. Not springlike. I wonder if I shouldn't just throw on a nun's robe and wait the whole sad mess out.
