Oh wow! I was just trying to pick one of these exact type of vintage American Locks that I own but for which I lost the keys long ago. I just started picking locks a week ago and just today managed to successfully pick several locks for the first time, but I spent about one hour trying to pick this particular lock unsuccessfully because it was behaving EXACTLY like the lock in this video. It has two very shallow set pins, I guess called Zero Setting and I did manage to set the pins into a false set 3 times, which gave me a partial rotation but after that I could not push any pins up and I also would get some noticeable counter rotation but I did not know what exactly to do with that so I would just reset the lock and try again. Now I see I need to further manually counter rotate and push the falsely set pin or pins up, which I also believe happens to be pin #1 on my lock as well. Watching this video makes me think that these locks might just work that way from the factory, which is cool because it makes them slightly harder to pick and thus more challenging and secure than say a laminated Master Lock, which seem very straightforward to pick.

That was some massive counter rotation on that last pin. Well done!

I was eating a piece of Victoria Sponge whilst watching and that little fight with pin 1 got me so intrigued I paused eating for several seconds willing it to open. Finally I can eat the cake.
Great little American lock and wonderful talked through demonstration in picking it.

Is that a removable core? I for one would love to see what's inside.

Huge click out of one. I think that’s the problem I have with a lock I’ve been dealing with. Going to try that method. Ty!

After picking, can you close it without the key?
Do you just rotate the core?

Ok. So this is an old video now, but I have a question that needs answered…. Is this lock bypassable? If so which methods American lock bypass tool, shimming, other? Hopefully you have this still and can answer my question. Love you videos brother
