It was either a stowaway that passed away from either the cold or lack of oxygen, or perhaps was put there in a sinister attempt to cover up criminal activity.
Those are my guesses anyway.

Pilot is always supposed to inspect a plane EVERY time before he enters an aircraft.

Of course it's only accessible from the outside. So is the contents of a storage container. What was even the point of this, excepting to gross people out? Anyway, sounds to me like, if it was recognizable at all, it was put there after the plane landed. Check the security footage.
