On its own its a dead end project. It will never be truly paradigm changing - even if it send humans to Mars in 15 years, it's severely limited by its price, lack of reusability, and production rate. Best we could hope for is Apollo 2.0, but on Mars.

Im 39 and Im pretty sure that's all I can hope for (Apollo 2.0) in my lifetime when it comes to human exploration of Mars... if in fact Starship doesn't deliver.

Hey! I enjoy your content, but I would just like to say something in case you didn't know. Spacecraft, especially in orbit, does not really require a lot of thrust or a high Thrust-Weight Ratio, what is most important is the Delta V. Delta means a change and V stands for velocity, so Delta V is "a change in velocity, " and so if we're in an orbit around earth traveling at a speed of about 7500 m/s in a spacecraft which propellant stores 100 m/s of delta V, we can fire our engine and burn all out fuel to change our velocity by 100m/s, so if we point at the direction of our trajectory and fire, we will accelerate to a velocity of 7600m/s, and if we point at the opposite direction of our trajectory, we'll decelerate to a velocity of 7400m/s.

If we have two spacecrafts:
1. This spacecraft has a high Thrust-Weight Ratio, but can fire for a a few seconds, and has a Delta V of 100m/s
2. This spacecraft has a low Thrust-Weight Ratio, but can fire for several minutes, and has a Delta V of 200m/s

The spacecraft with more DeltaV will go farther out, even though it has a low Thrust-Weight Ratio, because it makes up with burn time, or the amount of fuel it carries.

So that's how some rockets can carry a lot of payload, even with a lower thrust, because they're more efficient or has more Delta V available. Also why a lot of customers still purchase from ULA, because their hydrogen upper stages are more efficient and has more Delta V than SpaceX's Low efficiency, Low Delta V upper stages that use Kerosene (keep in mind all these values are relative).

Actually, I think that SLS, as obsolete or wasteful as can be considered, is perfectly suited for the task: flying four or five times in a decade. If had been made reusable, it would have cost even more. If you drive your car five times in ten years, if were available an expendable, single use car, you probably would spend less buying one every time you will use it. Seriously, the entire point in Starship is to find payloads for it, in a sufficient number to assure a constant and high flight rate that could justify the recover and reuse of the vehicle. And I'm not sure that there is this number of payloads around.

Let's hope it's a success because while there are workarounds, Vulcan/Starship, they're not going to be quick.

I'm looking forward to watching your interview with the engineer from the Exploration Company. The Nyx spacecraft is one of the most interesting new space projects that I've heard of lately.

Space X should give up of catching the starship, to great risk, never will be allowed in cape canaveral. Just make a carbon fiber booster save weight, it's not orbital, since it's reusable the cost wouldn't matter. Neutron will be a much better vehicle or relativity 3D printed rockets.

So funny that NASA didn't let you into the press box. You do the best general rocket reporting of anyone.

Maybe the end of government led space programs, but hopefully not the end of commercial space programs.

I'm happy with the see through glasses, adds a ton to your credibility!! I don't personally want my content creators to invest much effort into feeding a persona!!! Much more interested data and facts!!

Angry Astronaut hopes Sierra Space has a serious talk with Blue Origin if it delays the launch of Dream Chaser. I hope the serious talk includes consideration to use Space X. (In an earlier interview with Angry Astronaut, Sierra Space said they could launch with another launch provider but would need a few months for modification.)
Dream Chaser is supposed to be ready for flight this February. I have great doubts Blue Origin will be ready to fly by then. It would be a tragic waste if an efficient imaginative space company like Sierra Space loses an opportunity because it insisted on staying with the wrong launch provider.

Changing away from Stainless Steel is most likely to increase mass, not decrease it due to the added mass needed for reentry, and landing that is not present with the SS based Starships

The problem with Britain is that it seems determined to become a Third World country and rewrite its own history to say that it was ALWAYS part of the Third World.

I think the reason Space X is only testing the outer ring, is that is where the damage to B7 was following the explosion, and they want to verify repairs are OK, before committing the more expensive central engines that gimble.

All Starship needs is to become man certified and they are sorted. The xurrent system is ludicrous

@Astro_Angry why don’t you buy a huge zoom lens to put on your camera and tripod?
