1750 Snap-on Rusted and Seized Vise Restoration

Welcome to my channel. In the restoration video I restore a 1750 Snap-on mechanics vise (5”) that I purchased off of eBay for around $400 USD. I am happy how it turned out but let me know what you think.

As seen in the restoration video I dismantled the Snap-on vise and then put it in the parts washer to knock off some of the grime. After washing, I sandblasted the casted parts and some of the steel. I used the Vevor mini lathe to spin the screws and other parts to remove rust and also restore a new finish and then buffed them, plated, and buffed again. For the cast parts I filed and sanded down rough areas then primed and painted them. Some of the hardware was cold blued which helps prevent rust. I was able to buy new jaws, both the main jaws, pipe jaws, and new Snap-on Labels. I went for more of an original look on the vise and did not paint any of the embossed letters. From the factory they’re the same color as the vise. I put a light coat of grease between the vise and base and boy does it turn smooth. Overall I think the vise is a beauty but tell me what you think. I plan to keep this vise for the shop and use in in future restoration videos…so you will see it again! :)

I hope you enjoyed this restoration video and if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section. (I do try to read comments:). If you like seeing old things brought back to life, consider subscribing to the channel. :)

Have a blessed day,
Kev.

Im a sucker for vise restorations. I brought back to life an unmolested 1947 Wilton HD 4" bullet vise. Ever since then, im hooked

The 1750 Snap-on Rusted and Seized Vise Restoration is absolutely satisfying to watch! Incredible how something so worn out and forgotten can be brought back to life with such precision and care. Respect for the patience and skill it takes!

I appreciate that you showed the majority of the sandblasting process, most restoration channels show a few clips then skips to the finished pieces. Love watching sandblasting.

I was very impressed to see you use only a modest and restrained amount of grease during assembly. Many people slather on enough to sink a battleship which just oozes out everywhere and makes a mess. It was a very careful and thoughtful restoration.

The rounding over of the edges, the bluing, the nickel plating, the filling in of some of the dings. I enjoyed watching the restoration and I really liked the extra steps you put in to make the vise better than new.

Snap On wants their vise back now. It wasn't that good looking when it was new off the Line. Bravo Great Work!

Not sure what’s more beautiful, the vice restoration or the immaculate condition of all the tools used to restore this vice. Well done!

Wow! Really well done! Love the attention to detail. Not only did you clean and paint but also polish, fill, and remove some of the rough casting, so well done. Also love that you are not afraid to show you love Jesus! Keep it up brother! Glad I found the channel.

You did a better job than Snap-on factory. Well done!

At first I thought, $400 for a vise, but then when you start tearing it down and you see the build quality of the part and the effort you put into it. I understand. What an amazing job you did!

Yes - a Snap-On vise is just a rebranded American Made Wilton Bullet Vise painted red. EXCELLENT vise though!!

My father was a Snap-on Tools field manager (#1 in eastern US) for 30 years. This vice looks identical to the vice he has in his garage.

Gorgeous - I wish we still made stuff like this here.

Beautiful restoration. I am astonished it came completely apart. Nothing that seized I ever tried to rebuild came apart that easy and with no destroyed parts.
