I know this couldn't be fit in the shorts, but I would like to say that immediately after this Brennan points out that Gift of Gab is a really good spell for games like this, and made it a point that he wouldn't let Emily take it in a game like Fantasy High.

This stuff is the reason why (even though the spell wouldn't work here, RAW)

Im glad that they addressed Silvery Barbs being a noticeable hostile spell, it really shouldnt be a game breaking spell like they treat it as.

... This? This right here? This is why Brennan didn't let Emily take Gift of Gab in Fantasy High. Half the plot for Fig *would never have happened* if she could course correct when she misspoke. It makes sense in a Regency campaign where Fey who are concerned with social standing would *absolutely* mess with each other's heads to fix blunders- but a teenager who's awkwardly blundering their way through character development? If they could do that, you wouldn't get the development. So sorry hon, no dice! And I love that thematic choice.
