Make Homemade Chamomile Lotion (step-by-step from fresh flowers to natural skincare)

It's been some time since I showed you how to make fresh from the garden skincare! This time we're using homegrown chamomile flowers to make a gentle and natural skin lotion. Chamomile is a healing flower, like calendula, and is used to gently soothe eczema and other inflamed skin conditions. It's great for normal skin too and smells simply incredible.

I also introduce you to my new book, A Woman's Garden, Grow Beautiful Plants and Make Useful Things, that's now available for preorder:

🌿 Question for you: Let me know what you think about the lotion recipe and the book cover!

I've been making my own skincare for many years. I enjoyed your video, thank you. I'm writing this while trying to beat the heat as I sip fresh mint & sweet basil, strawberry tea, sweetened with liquid stevia. One of many deliciously hydrating cold beverages I've had thanks to my garden offerings.

I use beeswax as an emulsifier. It's a natural preservative, and it smells fantastic! It also makes your skin feel super soft and silky!

This was a refreshingly thorough tutorial. Thank you for sharing! I'm looking forward to your book! I LOVE the topics you'll cover. Can you elaborate on the preservative - how do we know when the lotion goes bad? Is there an obvious change in texture or smell? I skimmed through the instructions on your website but I didn't see if we just need to add enough to achieve a pH of 4.5 - 5.5 or if there is a ratio of preservative to the oil and water volume? Also, I tried to grow chamomile this summer but nothing germinated. Do you have any tips on growing it for the first time? Thanks in advance!

Ordered the book! And I had safflower oil and dried german chamomile and a jar ready to go so I put together an oil infusion. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and knowledge! You also inspired me to start a calendula oil infusion and that should be ready in about a week. :)

Hi, love this. Can you recommend a single supplier for the emulsifying wax and geogard ultra? The link to the geogard doesn’t seem to be working and I”’m sure the postage would be cheaper to buy both from a single supplier? Many thanks.

My Chamomile ended up getting smothered by a sudden Growth of Weeds. So I have had to do a Pull Out Everything from the Chamomile Patch and Smother It will Grass Ciippings and Black Plastic. There is enough Surviving Chamomile Plants to get enough Seed for Replanting my Chamomile Patch next Spring.

I am now experimenting with No Dig Gardening. I have a Potato Patch going with Ground that I have prepared using No Dig Method of Preparation. So far, the Potato Plants have gotten Huge and is starting to produce Blossoms.

I infuse my flowers into a mix of organic oils, including coconut. I use the oil blend directly on my hair, face and body.

I recently downloaded your ebook on making calendula lotion - can’t wait to try it! I’ll try out the chamomile recipe too. How long do the oils store? I’m going to try to make holiday gifts for friends so want to figure out when to start making the oils so they are as fresh as possible 😊
