Priti Patel has admitted the Windrush compensation scheme has been too slow to reimburse people affected by the scandal – but said she would not apologise.

Speaking in the House of Commons, the home secretary said the Home Office was dealing with “complicated cases” and that delays were occurring because each case was being handled in a “sensitive way”.

Perhaps it wouldn't have been so complicated if they hadn't made the decision to destroy the documents pertaining to these cases.

Does anyone know why she speaks in such a condescending manner?

She is incapable of apologizing. One of those "I'm sorry you feel that way" people.

she could barely even bring herself to say the words "respect" and "dignity"

Anyone surprised she doesn't apologise? Just another example of incompetence being paid premium at our expense

Priti Patel is why racism will always be an issue. Yes, I do believe Priti doesn't remember who she really is.

Priti Patel - a thoroughly disingenuous and unabashedly duplicitous woman.

The reason they are ‘complex cases’ is because it was a poorly conceived, ideologically driven, racist and inhuman policy. I notice one comment refers to compensation for ‘historic grievances’. No. This is very specific compensation. These good, decent people - all undeniable citizens of the UK - lost jobs, couldn’t pay for housing, have probably lost NI contributions which will affect pensions and access to care. They were financially penalised, humiliated and insulted by Britain. So, yeah, you could say they’re complex cases. Every aspect of this - from its concept to the lack of apology is a stain on our humanity. If ever anyone deserved quick and generous compensation - and numerous apologies - it is this cohort of our society.

Sensitive to what? The risk of paying out more than is due, not the victims.

At first, I wasn't too sure about her, but now I think she is fantastic. Strong, Serious and hates and forbids lawlessness.

"I recognise that this promise has not been delivered on, and I know that I am responsible for delivering that promise. But I will not apologise for failing to enact that promise"

Fucking Tories...

We should also expect her to apologize for her white privilege. Oh wait.

What a vile woman. She has no empathy whatsoever for the people who were wrongly punished/deported. One should be more sensitive to issues like this considering she herself an immigrant to this country.

Ok dont pay us, but you still owe for 400 hundred years of forced unpaid labour that underpins the Industrial Revolution and then left Jamaicans in debt to the IMF, the grubby hand in the velvet glove. You ate all the cake then deny your white privilege. To this day your sick obsession in interfering in Jamaican politics on the pretext offering help and support is insidious at best. And to you Priti if this was asians everybody knows you would have paid out months ago you dont apologise because you have no respect for people of Caribbean origin and no knowledge of our history. 2020 is a great year for bringing everything out from the dark into the light. Karma will eventually catch up with everybody.

Q: Why does the Government need to give out compensation?
A: Many were sacked, and subsequently found themselves ineligible for unemployment benefits despite having paid taxes for decades. Some people were evicted from their homes because they built up arrears as a result of being sacked. More than 160 people were mistakenly detained or removed from the country, and sent back to countries they had left as children decades earlier.

If they were going to send unregistered children of Jamaican immigrants home its a shame they didn't extend it to all countries, then hopefully she would have been bundled onto a boat years ago with a one way ticket.
