Former President Donald Trump was convicted on 34 felony charges of falsifying business records by a New York jury on May 30, 2024.

Manhattan prosecutors accused Trump of illegally covering up a series of payments, some of which they allege were hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an affair.

The conviction does not prevent Trump from seeking or serving a second term in the White House; Trump formally kicked off a campaign for the 2024 presidential election last November.

Several VERIFY viewers asked us whether Trump could pardon himself if he is re-elected president in 2024.

THE QUESTION
Could Trump pardon himself in the New York case if he is elected president in 2024?

THE ANSWER
No, if he becomes president again, Donald Trump could not pardon himself of any of the state charges brought in New York. The Constitution only permits presidential pardons for federal crimes.

I don't care for biden and I don't care for trump. I do get sick of all trumps threats to get even with regular Americans. He makes Putin look like a saint.

Am I the only one who feels that he is victimised?

45 would only be able to pardon himself for Federal crimes...

This excludes murder as well (which, as we know, is a State crime)...

Looking forward to the overturn from that kangaroo court decision. His conviction has more holes than Swiss cheese on a golf course.

From what I understand, he can pardon himself on a federal crime...but not a STATE crime.

He'll NEVER be in the White House, again... Except (maybe) on Prison Work-Release...

Of course not! The thought of "anyone" having the power to pardon "himself" is absurd, but in this case it is an impossibility. Trump convicted in a "state" court.
