Lyrics:
It was a long night for everyone,
The moon yields to a sober sun and her virgin light

Can’t unsee the things I saw
Fallen devils, false gods
In the violet light

Was it always this magnificent, cause it feels so different
In the morning light

Like the first word from your first born
Landscape transformed by the virgin light

How many times I’ve wished for change
Gave up, gave in, and called it fate
Repeating all of the same mistakes
Wasn’t ready for what I’d find

Whatever it is has turned the knife
It was a long, long night

It was a long night for everyone,
Felt the dull hum of wanderlust
In the morning light

Can’t unsee the things I saw
Fallen devils false gods
In the violent light

But now I finally see the sun
Drew out my wings flew over high tide
It looks much different in the daylight

How many times I’ve wished for change
Gave up, gave in, and called it fate
Repeating all of the same mistakes
Wasn’t ready for what I’d find

Whatever it is has turned the knife
It was a long, long night

I’m finally reachin’ to the sun
10,000 years there is a long time
Did you getaway?!

I’m finally reachin’ to the sun
10,000 years there is a long time
Did you getaway!?

Director Drew Lightfoot was nice enough to send over some notes about the making of the "Long Night" music video:

"Originally I wanted to build EVERYTHING in miniature and make it all as a puppet show but the characters I made were pretty rough looking when they moved. they lacked grace. That’s when I decided to make the suits human size. We made the suits from scratch using black foam-core, cutting all the forms, folding them over body parts - usually my own. The faceted suits were then detailed with strips of 3M reflective tape. I knew the tape would show up in the light and the black would disappear into the night.

We shot in the streets of the Lower East Side and Times Square of New York. There was a spot light atop the camera that caught the reflection of the tape and the remaining ambience from the environment. There were some curious people who would stop us and ask what we were doing, but mostly New Yorkers don’t care which is perfect. As busy as the streets were, because the passers by were not wearing anything reflective, they disappeared almost completely so I didn’t have to worry about empty streets. If you look closely you can see some silhouettes of passers by.
We also shot some footage at my farm-house where the duo are running through the trees. We were blessed with warm nights without much moonlight at all when we went out.

The miniature sets were built by Jessy Knudsen and myself. They’re an extension of the low-fi 3D look. They were crafted using wire stringing together thin metal tubing that was coated in the same reflective tape. I would cut out all the tubing pieces to length and then wire them together as three dimensional models.

Lee Gingold then worked some magic in the edit, creating the echo effect where the characters leave the trippy-tracer effect. I wanted the entire video to have a dream-like quality, drifting in and out of consciousness. The echo effect was then elaborated further to create entire nightscapes and star field worlds. After all, it is a story of star crossed lovers."

So happy I was "raised" listening to Guster. Amazing music from an amazing band. Live performances are always better than the recordings too, I wish I could say the same about most mainstream artists these days.
