Eagle owl sound on trail camera (bubo bubo) | oehoe
I got lucky to get the largest owl species of the world on my trail camera.
The eagle owl, or in Latin 'Bubo bubo'. A great name, isn’t it?
Because of its sound, they are called oehoe in Dutch.
Eagle owls can turn around their head 270°. This is because they have 14 cervical vertebrae, twice as much as humans have.
They are between 60 and 75 cm tall and can weigh up to 4 kg. What’s more impressive: their wingspan is between 1.6 and 1.9 meters. They are characterised by large, bright orange eyes and a large pitch black beak. Often they can stay unnoticed because they are perfectly camouflaged.
Also, the tufted ears are very characteristic (up to 8cm long)
They are mostly active during twilight.
Eagle owls occur in Europe and Asia, therefore often its referred to as eurasian eagle owl. In recent years, they are observed in a lot of places all over Belgium.
