In this exclusive interview, Jaden Jefferson talks police reform, community relations and accountability with Toledo Police Chief George Kral. “What happened in Minneapolis was horrible... it was pointless. Those officers should go to jail for a very, very long time.” The chief says about the officers who killed George Floyd.

The chief also says he wants to bridge the gap between different parts of our government and community: “I want to be the conduit between them, the mayor’s office and the police department. But at the same time, I want to do it peacefully without having any kind of riots or things burning down or protests blocking traffic.“

When asked about the difficulty when it comes to firing a police officer, this is what Chief Kral had to say about police unions and how he has limited power over the decision to fire someone: “I have to work within the parameters of our collective bargaining agreements. I promise you, if I was too terminate an employee who has a virtually spotless record, within six months an arbitrator would bring him back with back pay.”
