Just a safety tip. When you were cutting the plastic open you did in a risky way. Always cut away from you. When applying force the blade can always meet resistance and go off course. Your hands bleed a lot more then you would expect. I once cut into two fingers and lost enough blood to pass out rather quickly.

Did you use a diamond cutting bit to mount the polishing wheel.... I mean yeah sure it could work but seems kinda odd to use a diamond abrasive bit for that especially when the screw bit is specifically for that.

Remove screw on mandrel then put round sanding band on rubber, then replace screw, it will expand rubber and hold the sanding band in place
