Music Teacher Reacts: TINA S - Altitudes

Well here we are back at Tina S! The legend of the youtube haha.

She is here doing one of the most iconic shred songs of all time, Altitudes!
I'm blown away by how young she is when attempting this song, as it's one of the all time greats for shred guitar. Much respect to Tina and her team!

Sending Love,
-DJ

Tweet from Jason Becker, September 2015 : "Wonderful playing Tina! Thank you so much! I am honored."

You know she doesn't ONLY do Becker she does EVERY other guitar GOD as well! Listen to her cover of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata I mean she rips the strings on that thing! I mean over 6 minutes of over 2450 notes without missing even ONE of them! And how about Steve Vai's For the Love of God? Or Gary Moore's work? She does all these players with her own slant on their work. In looking through these others I noticed you caught my drift regarding this phenomenal player and in my opinion she IS the GOAT. When you listen to her you may find others reaching her level in some areas but across the board NOBODY plays the strings at her level. Nobody.

Thank you for your expertise and the quality of your comments.
She is not human… how would one single human be able to capture the style of so many different guitar legends??
Without even looking at it…
At this age…

So unbelievably talented, she blows me away with all her covers, a true natural. So relaxed even during the most complicated pieces, barely needs to glance at the fretboard, a true genius.. bravo Tina, keep them coming ❤

Tina S is a guitar prodigy and was classically trained for years from a very young age. Her soulful covers of Vai's "For the Love of God" and Gilmour's "Comfortably Numb" will probably make more than a few grown men cry and yes she can shred with the best of all time. Her biggest influence is the great female classical guitarist Anna Vidovic. I hope someday Tina S returns to music

Thanks DJ. This got my 2022 started in a great way. Very few people have reacted to this video, especially anyone with guitar skills. Thanks for doing it. Everyone thinks her Beethoven cover is her best, but for me its Altitudes. You can't just have technical ability, you have to have the emotional chops as well. Plus a real feel/sense of legato. If you miss one thing, the whole piece falls flat. For the Love of God has been my favorite of her covers for years, but this one might just top it. I don't believe you've reacted to her version of The Loner yet. There are several shorter ones that you could put together and just do one reaction. Eruption was her first YouTube upload and is what first got everyones attention, including myself. I would suggest The Loner first, then pick ones that interest you. By the way, Jason Becker did send Tina a tweet congratulating her on this cover.

She is a shred master! She has speed and accuracy with her left hand obviously. But her picking hand, just so relaxed and smooth...At the end of the piece when she was using the bar, there were parts of the solo that reminded me of "Phantom Of The Opera" from the musical. Actually, this whole piece could be in the musical and would sound like it was always there.

I don't know how old she is here, BUT, her teacher/coach, Renaud Louis-Servais said that he took her on as a student when she was 13 years old until she was 18 years old. Prior to that Tina had been training on an acoustic guitar. I can't imagine that there is sheet music for this stuff which means that girl is listening to the original and then playing by ear! Mirroring what she hears. Talk about phenomenal!

Tina S is by far the best female guitarist on planet. Oh soooo brilliant! Perfect!

I enjoyed a fair assessment, from a Jason Becker fan. I totally agree with your "paying homage... " opinion of covers. If it were identical, we may as well listen to the original.

I never thought I'd see anyone who would dare cover Jason Becker but Tina just killed it...
Side Note: Becker's performing career was cut short by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which he was diagnosed with in 1989. By 1996, Becker had lost the ability to speak, and he now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father.
