SCCM ADMIN - A GOOD CAREER CHOICE?

Is becoming a SCCM admin a good career choice? Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager is an important tool for many corporations, but is becoming a SCCM administrator a good career option for system administrators?

SCCM training and SCCM certifications seem to make the impression that the market for SCCM system administrators is hot, but I beg to differ. I think SCCM makes for solid employment, but if you are in IT to make a lot of money and grow your career, I feel System Center Configuration Manager is a poor choice. In this video I explain why I see it that way.

I have managed SCCM in the past and why I do consider it a good tool and think it makes for solid employment, it does not guarantee top income and I find it very career limiting.

I got into SCCM on my first IT contract kinda by accident since our project manager let some of us move to doing helpdesk tickets and over there, I ended up just working on SCCM packages as part of the deployment. Feel really happy that I got into SCCM so early into my career, but I think its time to shift towards learning more Azure and general cloud for job security in the next 5-10 years

SCCM is a great tool to administer a domain/network but there are other tools that can do the same thing for you without all the heavy duty stuff SCCM requires.

Wow, the moment I get lured into SCCM/Intune hearing how one can make a ton of money with this tool, you come on and explain how this is not the way to go!
haha! Story of my life I guess!

Since you seem to know this field in and out, maybe I could pick your brains a little.
I'm relatively new to the IT industry and currently working with an infra related role which includes working on AWS, Azure, Linux mainly. I'm not too deep in any of those. Do you think getting into SCCM/Intune can be a good combination with this? I'm not a software engineer. I like bash scripting and that's the closest I've been to writing a language.

I was majorly trying to study SCCM for the compensation factor.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Oh and btw, thanks for another great video! I really appreciate how much effort you put into these videos to help us budding IT folks!

Excellent! I was actually going to pursuing the SCCM certification. Now I thought of moving to MS Azure certification. I am currently working as a Service Desk/IT heldesk in one of the leading MNC's. I have made my career road map. Qucik Questions - Can I shift to MS Azure though I don't have any past experience in MS Azure ? Also I belong to non-technical background

What would be a right career/domain switch for a person who has spent time being a sccm administrator without letting go of the value of the past sccm experience.

I have been in sccm as a fresher since 2 years and have some experience in powershell packaging and sccm infra. I have done az-900 as we are migrating to azure.. and learning azure admin certification… but i need to switch to azure devops role.. i have been studying azuredevops with ci cd pipeline, docker and az-104 certification…. But is it possible to switch just by having knowledge but not actual hands-on experience?? I don’t want to start as a fresher again and i hope my sccm/packaging experience would benefit me… please suggest 🤔🤔
