One of the most underrated Bananarama songs ever.

Bananarama was 1 of the best female bands of the 80’s

Bananarama at their best: beautifully elaborated vocal harmonies in perfect unison, perfect music arrangement, a bit darker- mellow mood. How much I miss this Bananarama period!

Before Stock Aitken and Waterman turned Bananarama into a pop-machine juggernaut, A Trick of The Night (True Confessions) was what I would call 'Peak Bananarama'. Somehow, its lyrics encapsulated the zeitgeist of 1980s hedonism, but in a reflective moment. While the girls have gone on, deservedly, to much greater success, this track and the True Confessions album will always seem the moment when Bananarama found itself.

There was a time when you just took brilliant music like this for granted. Who would have thought those days would ever end.

My favourite song of theirs. Should have got in the top 10.

Beautiful song . Very deep and meaningful lyrics about a young guy the girls knew in the 1980s who was working as a escort.
The Spice Girls where never this good.

There are some absolutely beautiful chord progressions on this song. Highly underrated.

One of their best. Love the harmonies on this song, particularly towards the end. Sublime, intertwined and haunting voices over a stark and austere production. Just superb.

This song should have been an even bigger hit back in 1986. First heard the song in 2002 when I purchased a bananarama, and when I first heard this song on that collection it quickly became an all-time favorite. Should have been one of their bigger 👍👍❤️❤️❤️

This song is a great example of 'if only the record company had listened to the artist.' The band had liked this song and were anxious to have it released as a single. However, the label convinced them that they ought to issue two uptempo numbers first and then this one. Had this been the follow-up to "Venus" in the States, it would have definitely been a hit. They performed it on American Bandstand the week they appeared to do "Venus." This would have showcased them in a different way which would have gone down well with the Americans. Ah well! Can't rewrite history.
