Keri interviews Helena, 22-year-old woman who spent the majority of her teenage years embroiled in the social justice world view and identifying as transgender. At 18, she began using testosterone to medically transition but realized after 17 months that this decision was misguided, which resulted in her detransitioning. Now, she speaks out against the push to medicalize young people struggling with their body image and identity to raise awareness for the explosion of gender dysphoria in young women especially.

About Deprogrammed
Hosted by former SJW Keri Smith, "Deprogrammed" is dedicated to unravelling Keri's former ideology.

We'll explore the philosophy, strategy, and tactics that intersectional ideologues use to program "Social Justice Warriors," turning otherwise thoughtful, critically-minded individuals into armies of extreme leftist NPCs. Some episodes are interviews with special guests, and others are deep-dives into a different aspect of "social justice" culture, drawing both from Keri's personal experience as well as current events.

So I know my beliefs and way of thinking drastically changed from the age of 15 to 18. And then from 18 to 25 even more drastically. Making these decisions at such a young age is very detrimental to the lives of these kids, its so sad. It's not just dressing up like the other sex, its taking hormones and getting surgery and things you can't take back. The therapist, counselors, and school personnel are really failing these kids. Breaks my heart.

"I don't have a gender identity. I have a personality."

Exactly right

What is most distressing to me as a retired pediatrician is that Helena did not mention physicians or therapists as supportive and knowledgeable to assist with her detransition. I'm very disappointed in my former profession for its failure to help young people in distress before, during and after a decision to transition

I love how Keri interviews. So approachable and non-judgmental.

Helena is such a beautiful young lady. And very brave to speak the truth in a society which wants to squelch that message.

Pausing at 12:00 to say that I experienced something very similar with my therapist and my sexuality. I went through a time of confusion after my husband passed away and thought I might be gay. That was totally supported and applauded (in a way that made me kind of uncomfortable, like I’d accomplished something but I hadn’t?), but when I started to realize that I definitely was not gay, my therapist (and others) were concerned and even claimed I had internalized homophobia. It was cool if I questioned being straight, it was NOT cool if I was questioning being gay. It took me a while to get away from a woman I was seeing because everyone kept trying to convince me that it was my grief/internalized homophobia/whatever. Totally straight btw. No brownie points or applause for it, but I’m definitely straight 😂

This girl is gorgeous. Not just because of how she looks, but because she is strong and smart and capable and she's been through so much. What a jewel. What an incredible person.

I used to be on Tumblr too and observed that same phenomenon of people only being allowed to have opinions if they weren't straight and white. I came to the conclusion that many of these so called genders and sexualities are really just made so that people can voice their opinions. Asexuals and Demisexuals were the two I observed being used most often. These seemed to be mostly young women who didn't want to sleep around a bunch. But, despite their constant talk about the importance of consent, it's unacceptable to not have sex at all. Especially if you don't want to have sex for any moral reasons. So, asexuals and demisexuals arose. It's like all your decisions have to be made through a lens of gender, race, or sexuality.

Such a brave young woman and so self-possessed. I can't believe we are letting this happen to children. I feel so powerless to stop this madness from being pushed on young girls by schools and the media etc.

When I was a therapist in a regional sexual abuse treatment program in 1991-1995 I worked with some individuals who had transitioned but lamented that their sexual abuse issues hadn't been addressed as they felt that they might have made the wrong choice to transition.

I really appreciate Helena's thorough and articulate explanations on how she "fell into" the idea she was trans, and then the intelligent dialogue on why she de transitioned. I blame the "propaganda" of our higher education system and a run away media that wants to justify any and everything that will bring ratings. I congratulate Helena for her courage to be herself and to be public about her journey.

I teach 8th grade, SO TRUE!! There are so many young girls caught up in this, very sad. We're not 'allowed' as teachers to 'out' them to their parents... They want to be called by other names, etc. Thank you!! There is hope for these confused girls.

Self examination helps everyone. Constantly examine your beliefs and motives, because they drive your life. It's the best way to ensure you know which way you're going and why.

I saw a video Helena made as she started detransitioning, and I was feeling sorry for her, thinking she couldn't look female again. But looking at her now you can't tell that she ever transitioned. Even her voice is back to the female range .

It seems like with each new generation the understanding that children are supposed to be protected, that childhood should be kept innocent, that there's something sacred about women because they become mothers, they're where life begins, that all of these healthy attitudes have been under attack for decades and the culture has been damaged because of this.
There's a doctor at Boston Children's Hospital who helps children as young as 8 or 9 begin the transitioning process. Encouraging this sort of self destructive behavior in children is child abuse. I'm so sad for young people these days.

Your identity is your name. An individual is a multi faceted and gender is one facet and a person who bases there entire “identity” on a single facet are going to have problems.

Took her 17 months to realize she's getting scammed. Better 17 than 71.

_Surround yourself with people that _*_learn_*_ from their experiences in life [smart]._
Helena is one of those people you want to surround yourself with. Probably one of the wisest people in her age group+. Great interview
