IGN's PlayStation Vita - Hands On Impressions

Although it isn't due out in the United States for a few more months, we were able to get our hands on a PS Vita unit early and created this video showing off some of its features. Take a look at what awaits you when Sony's new handheld hits stores on February 22, 2012!

@DoubleAIV Apart from the apps and menus, the touch system of the Vita has been dubbed by Sony as an 'auxiliary control method'.

This means that in games, the buttons and analog sticks are STILL the PRIMARY means of control. If you want to use touch, it's simply there as a backup option except for a few games that get more creative with it.

Nonetheless, the controls will always be seeing some use. Don't knock it till you know it!

I've always loved Nintendo WAY more than Sony but for the first time ever I cant definitely say...the Vita looks 10x better than the 3DS! (and I've had the 3DS since launch) :P

imo YES it really depends on what kind of games you play I have games like ps all stars, sly 4, rayman origins & legends, sonic racing transformed, oddworld stranger's wrath, super stardust, street figther x tekken, littlebigplanet, lumines & ac3 liberation on my vita and there are a ton of games coming out for it (murasaki baby, tearaway, killzone, borderlands, binding of isaac rebirth, minecraft, batman, worms and much much more) not to mention all the games that are already out for it :)

@NoBigBoss It probably goes by the quarter system, meaning there are 4 levels that the Vita can be charged to. This video simply shows the transition from level 3 to level 2. Hope that helps.

@jojo1ukuk That's fair enough. Xbox 360 has started using a portion of the cloud, Where you can upload game save files up on cloud and can access the contents from any other console and download it there.

@mapleseallux in japan it's pre-paid, in Europe it's monthly for any network plan. In US it's a ATT exclusive monthly fee. We don't know how much yet.

Looking good. I am still hoping for two things, though:
1) Digital comics in Canada. Yes? No? Maybe?
2) Despite the size of the screen, I would love some kind of e-reader functionality.

if you have the brightness down and a considerable volume and then turn off bluetooth and stuff like that (which wont effect gameplay at all in a negative way) you can get instead of 2-4 you can get 4-6 hours

Yes. It's definitely worth it. And if you downloaded any of your games on your PSP from PSN, you can play them on the Vita too.
