Is The Royal Enfield Classic 350 THE BEST Backroad Motorcycle In The World? A Modern Classic Review!

We ride the stunning Royal Enfield Classic 350 (in Chrome Bronze) across Wales to Snowdonia National Park, all on backroads, to establish whether this is the best backroad motorbike money can buy.

In the most stunning location, The Ol' Man discusses this Modern Classic bike in an interesting review, and makes some very pertinent points.

Beautifully filmed, and with some awesome riding shots, with great audio of the sound of the bike (you can really hear the engine and exhaust), this is not only an interesting motorcycle review, but a visual joy.

What a great review.
You see a bike that looks like they’ve perfected the aesthetics and wonder if it’s actually any good. The review soon answers that for us. I’m getting one.

I find myself being the odd one out here in Sweden, in that I like "slow" motorcycles. Everyone here is obsessed with torque and speed and either ride sport bikes or harleys, very few riders here seem to care about cruising around at comfortable speeds and enjoying the scenery like I do. I had someone the other day literally laugh at me and say if I don't want to ride at at least 250km/h "I have no business riding a motorcycle." And it was a woman, too, believe it or not. So much for women being the sensible ones! Seeing this video is refreshing, it seems UK motorcycle culture is a lot more reasonable than Sweden's...

Royal Enfield is building quality machines that are well above their price point. Classic 350 stirs the imagination and soul..

Given how speed limits are only getting lower, and fuel more expensive, frugal low-capacity machines are only making more and more sense.

I own a 150bhp Ducati also and every time my RE's gets mentioned in my Ducati club some people look at me as if I come from another planet 😂. This Classic is build for back roads. Smile from ear to ear each and every time. Besides the Classic there's also a GT650 and Himalayan in the garage. That's how much we love RE.

Nothing to prove on a classic 350. No egos just lots of friendly chats. Sometimes biking can be a little stressful and the classic takes away your aggression and tells you just to be in the moment. A charming and flickable machine which brings joy.

Great video, very thoughtful. I bought a Hunter 350 earlier this year for the very same reasons: to explore the back roads where I live in West Cork, Ireland. I still have my 650 V-Strom (which I intend to keep for longer distances on the main roads), but I never really used it for those tiny and really tight single track roads with grass growing down the middle, often with nowhere to turn if you found yourself facing downhill at a dead end and bullocks grazing in the field ahead. For this kind of exploring, these small 350s are ideal, with nothing to worry about that could possibly sully the pleasure. And these long stroke engines just sound great!

I own a royal enfield classic 350, 2012 model.
I have clocked nearly 2 lakh kms up til now on my bike and I can easily say I am proud of my bike!
I have ridden it on almost all kinds of altitudes, on tough terrains and weather conditions and my classic 350 never, ever failed me. And trust me, I am not exaggerating a bit... 😊
The comfort, the pure joy of relaxed, laid back riding that this bike gives is just unparalleled. Of course, it all boils down to one's choice and preferences after all. But this is one rough and tough bike.
It's still going strong and will stay like this forever!

I've had my classic 350 for just over a year, done over 3000 miles, motorway miles, backroads and commuting... its the most fun i've had on a bike... its biking at its purest form...
I've had fireblades, two stroke racers, Harleys, touring beemers, Vespas and all in between.... its just a bloody good bike..

I own an RE 500 classic (my second one) and an RE Interceptor (INT 650 here in the States) I have 2 scooters as well and a Janus 450. I took my 650 in today to have my brakes looked at, while there I test rode a 350 classic. I have read/watched every review on this bike. They do not do it justice. I was BLOWN AWAY by how absolutely comfortable it is. The riding position, The seat, The Absolute SMOOTHNESS of the engine. The supple suspension. My God. It is, BY FAR the most comfortable 2 wheeled conveyance I have ever ridden. (the 650 is smooth but the foot position is Terrible!) My only concern was the lack of energy at 60MPH. Lots of freeways here, they are an inevitable part of any ride here in Oregon. Two. Just TWO more horsepower and it would be 100% Perfect. In spite of this, I was ready to trade in my 650 for one.. but they offered only $2, 000 in trade in value. My 650 is the Chrome version with extras, it was, when I bought it, $8, 000 out the door and it only has 2, 200 miles on it. I think I'll have to sell my 650 to a private buyer and then get that 350!

Agree with everything you say about life and motorcycles. I’ve settled on a red and chrome classic 350 after owning 23 bikes over 50 years. My last bike was a KTM 390 Adventure which forced me to ride like a hooligan everywhere. The Classic makes me ride like a gentleman.

You are echoing my thoughts... I have owned countless bikes of all brands. HD, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, RE... etc... I can honestly say my 2022 Classic 350 is my favorite bike of all time. My 2022 Interceptor is tied for third behind an 04 HD Fatboy and an 01 HD 883 Sportster. I can't explain it to people... that damn 350 has a soul like no other.

I recently bought the Classic 350 in New Orleans Louisiana USA and rode it to Atlanta Georgia covering over 800 miles in 4 days. I am 220 pounds/ 100 kilograms, and the 350 was so much fun to ride. It's like a grown up Honda Grom. Watching you ride this bike greatly helped me make the decision to buy it.

The import taxes in UK must be off the roof

For example the most expensive CLASSIC 350 in India is INR 286411 (in Bangalore which has probably the highest road tax in India) which when converted today comes to about £2750.

For context the most expensive interceptor 650 costs INR 419075 which is exactly £4006 (as of today)

I’m 13.5 stone (190 pounds) and I’ve ridden mine through much of the Appalachian Mountains and my 350 is the preferred bike I choose of many for these kinds of roads. At shows which are Harley dominant in number, it tends to draw far more attention, awards, and accolades because it’s so unique.

I ride a 16 plate Classic Chrome 500 with drum brake rear. It’s done 11, 000 trouble free miles. It’s not fast but it took me to Spain and back from UK. Slower pace of life you get to see more.

One of the best reviews and best POV’s I’ve seen of what it’s actually like to ride the 350. Excellent camera and audio!
