Cool for console racers I guess, me personally couldn't care less (Assetto Corsa and iRacing) but still GT got me into simracing ( played 1 to 5) so the series does have a special place in my heart, fond memories of playing hours and hours with these titles!

I've never played any versions of Gran Turismo, but I have to respect their commitment in bringing the best sim racers into the fold of the real racing community. Having seen an online racer I competed against, become the best sim racer turned pro race driver, there's no denying that Sony puts their money where their mouth is.

Will patiently wait and see if they actually deliver. I love GT1-4 and 5 was alright. But now they've been over-promising and under-delivering. Definitely not getting hyped but I am pulling for them to create a good game to get some of their audience back.

Usually I'm just watching these videos - but today, I'm going to comment a little bit.

To be honest, I'm thinking on more than a year now how can we make simracing a professional sport (or if it is better, to a professional eSport). Because let's face with it: why not?! There are some differences between simracing vs real racing, but there's a common properties, which is the most important thing in my opinion: both is about PURE RACING. Pure fight for the last thousands of a seconds. Pure fight for the last point, Pure fight for the championship title.

There are so many talented guy out there who deserves (in my opinion) to be a professional race driver, but not all of them get the chance to try out himself in a real racing series. So yeah, I'm going to support these stuffs like this GT championship!

Do we need FIA to legitimate simracing as a motorsport? Maybe. Can simracing be a professional sport? Definitely! Why is it good that FIA 'sponsoring' this championship? They have enough experience in the past few decades about organizing professional championships (even so sometimes it's turning into a bad joke), so for simracing, it can be pretty useful - in that case, if we would like to see professional simracing championships and professional simracers. In my opinion, this FIA Gran Turismo Championship is a very big spring board for simracing.

I believe this is a beginning of something new, something cool, and...something bigger.

I'm looking forward this thing!

To me sim racing will never be "motor" sport, as it's virtual and the cars aren't real. However, it IS genuine competition, which can be sanctioned and taken seriously

Lost all respect for them years ago, waited literally years for GT5 on PS3 and ended up with Prologue. Then watched as a champion was crowned through GTacademy that clearly cut all four wheels off the track without a penalty. No chance of me buying a PS4 for this, would not bang.

Can't wait to play the full version in 2018.

GT Academy in my opinion proved the legitimacy of sim racers in the real world. They proved that the skills do transfer over. It might take them a little bit to get used to real world g-forces and such, but once they adapt, they are fast or faster than drivers who have been driving real world cars for decades.

I'm also really excited about this. Can't wait to get more info.

For me sim racing will be a real motorsport, the day any real racing driver (Not just the computer geeks like us) can sit in the sim and be as competitive as in real life. At that stage sim racing has become the real deal.
With that said I truly enjoy the racing hat simracing is giving me now.

As for your question Shaun, I think Sim Racing is a legitimate eSport and has always been. I think it also deserves recognition for the technical and tense competitive nature thing it is. But I wouldn't call it a motorsport, as there's simply no "motor" involved. Rallying, cart racing, motorcycles and heck lawnmowers all qualify, but I wouldn't call sim racing a motorsport.

It is almost sure that GT Sport will be a GT-Academy-like prologue to GT7 which will come out at least a year later. GT Sport will be the testbed for the changes coming in GT7.

The laser scanned tracks, cars and sounds are approved by FIA
so the real driving simulator become true!

To me i'm feeling it maybe like the GT we know but without all the purchasing of stuff and upgrading . Probably more in line like P-Cars in overall structure of the game focused more on playing than credit farming and upgrading . I don't mind seeing a GT game go in this direction . Bit worried they might go all in for this e-sports stuff and leave the SP mode out completely apart from free practice but we'l see in time I guess .

I fully expect it to a be a stripped down version of the previous games where you have an arcade mode, you have some scenarios (LMP's on circuit de la sarthe for example) and then you have the online component. I don't see it being a full game like the rest of the series and it could just be entirely focused on the online component.

Here's hoping it's good. GT5 2.0 was a solid racer. GT6 I never could get connected to the car and track. Then once I went iRacing the atrocious frame rates made it completely unplayable. PS4 has some decent power under the hood compared to PS3. They did well with graphics and physics on that accent machine. So to expect good things from the PS4 version is logical. Fingers crossed that Gran Turismo redefines itself on next gen.

prologue style "test" of online championships, my guess is they are looking to bring "iracing style" tourneys to the simcade / console market.FIA sanctioning does not make it any more or less valid, FIA needs the new "21st century" exposure more than any title needs its sanctioning.

i can see it now, gt sport the game will launch, the fia racing series will be coming soon. a year and a half later it will be put into the game. i wonder if there will be qualifying in it? or will everyone just start from last position like how GT6 does it. the real racing "simulator".
