Ive played as an outside hitter my whole volleyball career but, I've always thought as Liberos and DS's as the coolest positios on the court.

I'm a 6th grader and I wanna be a libero so I get practice and even if my friends think it's dumb for me to practice I'm trying to get that position and it's really important to me and I love getting tiered

Had 2 older sisters who played in middle/high school, and I always thought this simply meant that they were team captain 🤦🏾‍♂️
Really cool that there is far more to it than that.

I had my first day of tryouts today and if I get on the team I really hope to be a libero. I’m not that tall so being a blocker or something wouldn’t be the best for me, and my spikes don’t always go over the net. I love receiving the ball because it gives me so much excitement.

Me who’s been a Libero for my whole career: maybe I don’t know some stuff about my own spot?

In the video of Stanford's phenomenal libero Morgan Hentz, Madeleine Gates was across the net playing for UCLA. It's crazy seeing her across the net FROM Stanford considering she got the final kill on game point in 2019 FOR Stanford to win its program's 9th NCAA Championship. She had an amazing record-breaking hitting efficiency that tournament.

As someone who's wanted to be a libero my whole life this video has really helped me out. Thanks a lot!

FYI..Regarding the libero rules… The libero replacement takes place in the “libero replacement zone” which is from the end line to the attack line. It does not take place between the attack line and the net because that is the “substitution zone” and as stated multiple times in this video, the libero does not count as substitutions. Any player stepping over the attack line towards the net is immediately deemed to be a player wanting to substitute, the score table sounds the buzzer, and the referee prepares to oversee the player substitution. If a Libero stepped into that zone, this would cause a game delay, as they are not a proper substitution. This would lead to a delay card.

I really wanna get into volleyball and I feel like libero is the only position I could realistically achieve (with a TON OF WORK OFC) because I’m short and don’t jump high! However that’s actually pretty great because it think it’s a flipping AWESOME position.
I just wish I won’t end up in one of those teams who are pretty clueless about the rules and roles AKDGKSGSK because I’m an absolute nerd. I know so much technical volleyball plays but I can’t even hit a ball properly

I think it's great that you mention it's an Italian word that means free. Mike Dodd mispronounced it during the Olympic broadcast when it was first introduced and it stuck all the way until now. Finally, a lot of higher level coaches have begun pronouncing it correctly (I'm guessing that it has something to do with interacting with volleyball players/coaches in Europe where it is pronounced correctly). Karch Kiraly pronounced it correctly many years ago and his pronunciation was questioned during the broadcast (NCAA D1 finals??). He explained that the root word is liberate. (we pronounce it like the root word is wheelbarrow)
