I don't listen to hip hop very much anymore, when I do it's mostly pre-2000. But I do like watching a lot of these youngsters on shorts, TT, etc. I don't know what it is, but watching these guys that have traditionally put so much importance on a tough, gangster like image (not everybody, of course) but being silly and happy and often very funny, is fascinating. NLE is one of the best examples. He's truly very funny and seems to be a genuinely good dude who loves being around his friends.

I like that the entertainers aren't afraid to express themselves and their true personality and style- even if their style is flamboyant and tends toward bending traditional male gender expression. Lil Wayne was a pioneer in that sense. Blending hip hop fashion with some of the skater or emo styles at the time- skinny jeans, piercings for example. In the 90s, the idea of a rapper, especially a black man with brightly colored, dyed hair was basically unthinkable.

I have a lot of thoughts that I'm doing a pretty poor job of expressing right now, especially in short form. I've just been feeling more and more unity in the younger generations and a lot of crossover and acceptance between groups of people that for so long just didn't interact enough and didn't understand each other very well. I also think that divide was intentionally engineered for a long time by politicians and those with other means of power and influence, but that it is unsustainable and will continue erode naturally as its perpetrators die off and it makes me happy and optimistic despite red hat type people and their hero, who, though they have been loud and given way more attention than they ever deserve, they aren't the future. The young people are, and I have faith in them.
