Tomb Raider & Deus Ex studio to be acquired by Embracer Group

Square Enix is in the process of selling Crystal Dynamics, Eidos, and Square Enix Montreal to the Embracer Group. The deal includes Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief franchises as well as over 50 other back catalog titles.

But who exactly is the Embracer Group? In today’s video we are breaking down some of the history behind Embracer Group and why Square Enix might want to sell a franchise as popular as Tomb Raider. Come hangout.

It is going to really be a kick in the teeth if Embracer makes a Deus Ex or Tomb Raider game and rakes in tons more profits when compared to its time under SquareEnix I am all here for and would enjoy it immensely.

I see this as a win, Embracer has been helping their acquisitions to make more games in a similar fashion to Sony where they help them but don't try to micromanage allowing the devs to make what they want knowing they have the support of a bigger conglomerate and Square seems like they only really care about the safe bet when making games they know will do well, really hoping to see a modern Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver game come out of all this

Hoping for a new thief most of all, but the disaster that was thief 4 probably has made the series toxic.

Legacy of Kain would be amazing too all those games have been amazing, not one bad title to that franchise.

If anyone gets Square Enix. It'd be interesting if it was Microsoft. Given the history of SE having a lot of Playstation exclusive titles. It could mean more jrpgs brough over to Xbox and PC

I see this as a big win, purely because of how the corporate structure works at embracer. They're basically letting companies do their own thing and make whatever games they want, and then just being the finance and group that backs it. A lot more games publishers should act like that rather than micromanaging idiots. Because the data on how many popular games have come out from specific studios in the past number of years, shows that giving artists free rein with checks and balances is the way to go. Seems like embracer group is just taking that concept and running with it till the cows come home
