Named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty
Third brightest object in your sky, I light up the night

I am planet Venus
I don’t have moons or rings, but I don’t need those types of things, yeah

I’m covered in dense clouds from my north to the south
They hold in the Sun’s heat and don’t let it escape out
They act like a blanket wrapped all around me
Making me even hotter than planet Mercury
Because they are so dense they create a lot of pressure
Being on my surface would feel like being under 3000 feet of water

I rotate slowly on my axis, slower than any other planet here
One day on me is longer than my entire year
I take about 225 Earth days to orbit ‘round the sun
But 243 Earth days just to complete one rotation

I like to be different and change the rules
So, I rotate in retrograde or backwards to you
From above, your planet spins counterclockwise, But I spin clockwise
So, on my surface you would look to the west to see sunrise

I’m the 3rd brightest object in your sky, you’ll see
After the Sun and your moon, the brightest thing is me
My sulfuric acid clouds make me reflective and shiny
So much so, that sometimes during the day you’ll see me
I’m called Earth’s sister planet because our size and mass are similar
But that’s where the similarities end, I’m not at all hospitable
My surface is unlivable

I’m a terrestrial planet with a rocky surface on me
Covered in hardened lava flows as far as the eye can see
I have more volcanoes than any other planet in our solar system
Some are dormant, some are active, there are thousands of them

High above my surface amongst my clouds your probes have seen
Dark streaks that absorb ultra violet light, what could that mean?
That maybe there is some sort of microbial life on me
So future missions have been planned for your scientists to study

My atmosphere rotates about 60 times faster than I do
Swirling winds all around me with violent lightning storms too
I have a carbon-dioxide atmosphere and sulfuric acid clouds
And a unique cyclone storm at my southern pole of which I’m proud
It spans across different altitudes and is always changing shape and size
But the coolest thing about it is that it has two eyes
And it never dies (VENUS)

The first planet explored by spacecraft - Nasa’s Mariner 2
It flew by and scanned me back in 1962
Since then, I’ve had many visitors all wanting to photograph me
I’m Earth’s closest neighbor so reaching me is easy
