When the Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020, it had a tremendous impact on adults, specifically the elderly. Nearly two years later, a global study has shared answers on how Covid has impacted children.

The study is co-led by a team of researchers from the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and University of California-Davis Medical Center. It followed more than 11,000 children at 41 emergency departments in 10 countries including Canada and the United States, Italy, Spain and Australia.

Stephen Freedman, MDCM, co-leads this study. He is a professor in the departments of Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Professor in Child Health and Wellness. He is a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the O’Brien Institute of Public Health in the CSM.
