I saw it coming, but was also the last person near me to see it.

After the tsunami in the Indian Ocean, how could anybody not already be running for higher ground when they see the tide roll out like that?

We lived in Port Angeles, took regular day-trips to Lake Ozette and Neah Bay area.
Grandma taught us to always watch the ocean and look for waves that seem to be 'stuck' or piling up on each other.
The signs are there for some time before it gets bad, but on a shallow beach like this it can get bad really fast!

That's MUCH more than a King Tide. That's a proper Tidal Bore. Wow! (4 years later LOL).

The big danger is the rip current after the sneaker as water draws swiftly back to sea

When i lived in WA, there were many stories of people being overwhelmed on the beaches and taken out to see or hit by logs of wood in the waves. You really have to pay attention in the Pacific NW

As a full blooded, born & raised Oregon kid, I know our ocean, rivers and lakes all too well!... Our coastal waters and rivers are not only powerful but frigid cold and will steal your breath away!....

This is new to me. Frightening. Atlantic not like this, that I know of. Absolutely incredible to watch the water coming and coming and coming. Yikes! Beautiful but obviously deadly. Thank you for your video. I would like to see a drones coverage of that.

Man I remember when Neskowin had a walkway by the cafe but now the river has washed it all away. All before the neighborhood was built on the beach. Love it there 🤍

This is why you never turn your back to the ocean. Born and raised in Oregon, even worked at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. People will take their strollers right up to the tide level and think nothing of it. People will even walk around the rocks during extreme low tides, putting their bodies between a rock and the waves, without realizing a big sneaker wave could catch them any time and crush them up against the rocks.

"I saw it coming" ... Only runs after it's nearly too late.

From the moment the video began you could hear the roar coming. Flash floods have a similar roar. When I hear that sound I know to be aware and move to high ground! It reminds me of 'white noise' or an old TV trying to dial in a UHF channel, but the volume is turned way up. LOL
