In this season finale, I pitch 4 methods of 3D scanning head to head to see which is the best at scanning in different situations.

I've covered each of these methods with dedicated episodes earlier in this series which you can find here:

You can watch the whole season in a playlist (including the series intro) here:

Would love to see more videos on iPhone apps and specifically looking at apps that use Face ID

i used a dji drone to fly around my jeep, filming at 4k @120 fps. I then used VLC player to extract each frame as an image and used meshroom to reconstruct it. other than the clear glass it did well, to the point you could see the cracks in the asphalt

The CR-Scan option seems pretty solid! Seagasket was hilarious and a great test. After your last video I managed to snag a CR-Scan Ferret SE on eBay for only $150. I know it is the lowest end scanner on the market basically, but I figured it's a great way to get into it and for $150 I really can't lose. Early reviews were mixed, but it seems the firmware and software have gotten a lot better over time. If it's even half as good as the Otter I'll be thoroughly impressed. Keep up the good work!

I've used kinect 1 in the past with ok results. Not great, but enough to make a low resolution 3d print of myself and some relatives. Also, with a bit of time, it can be a very accurate template to have as a guide modelling the object in blender and such. Great video, btw

I have a CR-scan ferret and i have no issue with it via my phone app and i still use it on my desktop when the object i am scanning is moveable. Plus if needed i can scan with the phone app and use the desktop to process the entire model. For the price i am happy with it, and i got it on sale at the time.

Can you compare the CR scan farret with the Kinect V1 and the Kinect V2?
I would be curious if the more affordable CR Scanner is actually comparable.

The Creality Otter produces impressive results but earns a 4.2 rating at Amazon, and based on those comments, people didn't like the requirement for a powerful computer, and had trouble scanning anything but the owl sample that shipped with the scanner. Apparently, the software would generate errors for "lost tracking" or "insufficient valid scanned points". My biggest issue is the requirement to use Windows or Mac. I'd like Linux support, but apparently they're working on iOS and Android support, although I don't know how that's going to work if the PC software requires an i& processor, high end graphics card and 32 GB of free RAM.

It would be intresting so "fuse" the Cr sacnner to a windows handheld like the ROG ally with 3d printing.
