These platforms just really aren't well designed for artists, they're foremost content farms.

Your TikTok algorithm explanation makes so much sense. It’s kinda frustrating when people that follow me may not see my content again unless they actively search me.

Art Instagram is so bad fr, you'll get bullied if you have a unique style, and you'll get bullied if you draw a popular style, just non-stop bullying everywhere 😭 like is it really that hard to simply be respectful??😭

You're so right, the older you get the more people have expectations for your art. When people learn at their own paste.

I’m turning 19 and the age thing SUCKS. I started drawing in 2021 but really started trying to improve in the middle of 2023, I feel like I haven’t gone anywhere and younger artists are skyrocketing. Feeling like I should be farther than I am while I haven’t put in enough work for it, but since I’m aging I should be better or I’m doing it for nothing. Pushing past the mindset is so difficult

Art shouldn’t be competitive, it should be fulfilling to the soul

Fun fact: you can personally dislike something without having to attack or demean those who like it

Another fun fact: you can dislike something without having to prove to everyone that it's """problematic"""

I’m a traditional artist and over the years it feels like the algorithms don’t care about traditional artists. Even when I do look up traditional art and scroll for hours later on my for you is still full of digital artists when that does not help me in the slightest. and you’re right artists are basically in influencers which is why I don’t post my art in like anymore anymore. Cause I genuinely started to hate making art cause I knew I would have to post it. Now I just make art for myself and maybe some friends and I enjoy it more. I don’t wanna be an artist who posts things I just wanna make

As someone who is 23 years old, I can confirm I’m making art from beyond the grave 🪦💀

We first and foremost need to appreciate your editing. Also, wanted to add that I’ve followed you on both TikTok and insta for a while and your tutorials/tips have helped SO much

Artists on TikTok stress me out. a few months ago I just wanted to join a small movement and I'm a traditional artist not digital so my art was kind of crappy and someone commented to me "you're not a real artist you're totally fake" without seeing my other art style

Dude art Instagram was so much fun back in 2019 or whenever, literally was so good for connecting with other artists 😢

The main problem with all social media platforms are the people. Everyone is trying to out-do everyone else. It’s become so oversaturated with supposed “artists” trying to be art influencers instead of actual artists. I follow SO many artists on Instagram and so few of them really draw anything anymore. Instead they just makes reels complaining about lack of reach/views/followers/how terrible the “algorithm” is etc… There is no [Social] there is just media. Few people have real conversations with each other unless it’s self promotion or they feel it could benefit their own growth.

I’ve been drawing for years - and I won’t lie, I don’t always have a perfect relationship with my art - but the creation of art comes before anything else in regards to my own social media account. I feel like so many people want to become artists without learning to love drawing first? It doesn’t matter how good you are at something if you hate doing it - and I don’t mean disliking the result - I mean the mark making.

I find so much joy in just picking up a pencil and drawing lines and shapes and patterns and sometimes it turns into something else and sometimes it’s sparks an idea and sometimes it doesn’t. But that feeling of joy is what remains. And that’s what should always be important. But this overwhelming desire for popularity seems to overshadow the joy for creation - it’s the reason so many people turn to AI because they don’t care to make art, they just want the money and popularity that they expect a good artist to have…

Also in answer to your question, I don’t think I have any weird food combos? Apparently having mayonnaise instead of ketchup with chips (aka fries) is a faux pas… I also sometimes just have vegetables and gravy as a meal because I hate cooking (anything that takes more than 15 minutes to prepare is a real chore).

TL;DR Too bad, you need to learn to read, remember? 😂

Real talk art station has some of the most talented artists I've ever seen, most are professionals whose work has inspired real growth in my work definitely recommend

I just hate people who underestimate my capability to draw according to my age. Just because I am fourteen to fifteen years old doesn't mean I lack the knowledge of my creativity and artistic view. And when u are ''old' according to the art-tok age group, that's a whole other issue. Thank u Viyaura for pointing out this issue! as an young artist I face many discrimination just for my age.

Thank you for the summary on the state of things on current art social media communities (or lack there of), I’ve been so out of the loop!
I haven’t posted my work (outside of my website) to social media in 3+ years. During college, it was just so draining to fight the algorithm, and it became easy to conflate likes and engagement with my artistic talent and self worth. To anyone who thinks they ‘have’ to post their art to be successful, or to make it a career, it’s not always needed. I now work full time for a game studio as a game artist, and not once did they care or ask about any social media accounts I might have. If you want to be a ‘content creator’ or a commission artist, then social media can work, but it’s not the only option for you if you want to make it. Also, if you just want to post for fun, try to separate yourself/ the fun you get from it from the engagement, it will save your mental health in the long run.

I get laughed at for watching YouTube shorts and going on YouTube instead of YouTube but I have the perfect reason.
I’ve watched a few videos and it’s already recommending me more of your videos it’s amazing 😍

honestly the ageism of tiktok scares me, im turning 16 soon and i feel like 13 year olds are gonna call me old or something and say i have bad art for my age, because i know very well there is people out there who are younger than me and better at me in art, and a part of me is scared to post on tiktok feeling like ill get flooded with people calling my art ugly and bad for my age, i already want to stay up all night and practice endless amounts until im burnt out just thinking about it.
