I have no vested interest in how the OoT community decides to run its categories or treat these new strategies. The comments in this video are just observations and analysis. Anyone thinking I’m ‘complaining’ about anything or trying to make a statement couldnt be any more wrong or misguided.

“The year is 20XX, the oot speedrun world record current sits at 0.001 seconds achieved by using a controller made of 99% duct tape and warping to the last frame of the end credits the moment the game starts. You may think things couldn’t get any some would disagree”

10:00 “Skipping the ocarina saved a huge amount of time.” Hence ocarina of time.

So speedruns went from "cutting corners to not waste time" to
basically having the character preform a devil/credits summoning ritual?

the credits warp legit sounds like those old rumors to unlock stuff like luigi in mario 64

I love how people warping 93% of the game are upset someone warped 4% further.

"The world record was 16:58"
Looks at video length.

Neo: So, how did the first person glitch out of the Matrix?

Morpheus: First, he looked at a wall and jumped sideways a few times...

Lol, that set-up is literally "How to unlock luigi in super mario 64" type of movement

I remember years ago, I saw an ocarina of Time run that was 40 minutes. I thought that was revolutionary

I would like to point out that the Fire Temple wrong warp (also directly into the credits) is still valid and has been the whole time.

basically any speedrunning debate: "what if it was just a separate category?"

It's gonna get to the point where they find a way to play the end credits from the title screen

As a software engineer, these kinds of runs are both fascinating and terrifying. Fascinating because people are reverse engineering the code of the game with very limited insight into the code, so it's an amazing feat of software analysis. Even knowing the code well still presents the problem of figuring out how to exploit it. Even if you know that the game loads warp IDs from a certain memory location, you have to notice that you can overwrite that memory in some way. Beyond that, you have to figure out a way to do so with the limited input of the controller.

It's terrifying because every one of these glitches in a game would be a critical security vulnerability in any other piece of software. If clicking some random spots on a web page and scrolling at a certain speed lets you hack into the server, then you've got some serious problems. This kind of speed run shows how easy it is for code to be exploited by motivated attackers.
