Life Aboard... The JMC Red Dwarf Part I | Spaceship Breakdown

Показать описание
3 million years from Earth, the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak save for one survivor, his dead bunkmate and an evolved form of his pet cat. But let’s not get bogged down on that - we’re here to overanalyse tiny little details to work out what the day to day life of a Space Corps Astro would be like.

See, not every trip into space means you’ll be tripping the void into distant star systems, nor is it guaranteed you’ll be coming face to face with an alien monstrosity from the far reaches of the galaxy. No, sometimes a day working in space is just another day, flanked by ocean grey walls and waiting for your next paycheck to clear before settling in for another six months of flight time.

Such is life aboard the JMC Red Dwarf.

Life Aboard is a series dedicated to examining what it would be like to live, work and serve aboard some of science fiction's most notorious spaceships. Forget the laser cannons, the made up technobabble and let's ask ourselves what the important questions are - how's breakfast, and where do I sleep?

Its a series for which I could have a memory wipe so I can watch it again not knowing what is going to happen. Love it still.

Red Dwarf has been such a comfort to me over all these years. I still need it to this day...it keeps me sane.

the captain of Red Dwarf was also the commander of the Weyland mining colony, exciting cross over

I’m so glad people on YouTube are still making red dwarf content, this is brilliant, good job!

Great to see some Red Dwarf content. I grew up the the 80's so the show is part of my childhood. “Step up to red alert." Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb." Probably my favourite Red Dwarf joke.

It is rare to find such a detailing of Red Dwarf . Most people do all the star trek, or star wars ships. Thank you for making this.

Back in the days when entertainment was simple, funny and...entertaining. Still love this series after decades and it's good to see I'm not the only one.

I smegging love Red Dwarf! Been a fan since I was a kid! I got to meet Craig Charles and Robert Llewellyn when I was a teenager when they came to my area for a public TV pledge drive Red Dwarf marathon that my mom was volunteering for. They were both total sweethearts and hilarious too! Very generous with their time and love for their fans. I gave Craig Charles a drawing of Red Dwarf that I made and they signed a bunch of stuff for me! Robert Llewellyn called me a "big lug"! That still makes me laugh. :P One of my most treasured memories. This is a truly great show that not enough people know about, and I hope they still get to make more someday! Boys from the Dwarf forever!!!

Great video! I just discovered your channel, but you hooked me immediately with this one, so you got my subscribe!

It amuses me that it takes the 'express lift' over 3 hours to travel 5 miles. Only thing slower is Rimmer pulling at a disco

The start of Red Dwarf cracks me up everytime....the space guy with the paint roller painting the Red Dwarf then pans out to the massive ship!! 😎🤣🇦🇺👍

Red Dwarf is still to this day my favourite TV show by a long way, I've been a fan since I saw Queeg aged 12

I never actually realised how well JMC looked after their employees... all the pieces were there, but I didn't put them together in my head. Considering the pessimistic and cynical picture Red Dwarf paints of the mid-to-far future of human space travel, realising how good the Dwarfers actually had it was a nice surprise!

One *small* note though, if I may; Article 5 and the backup computer are a total fabrication, "Queeg 500" was literally a bored Holly twin-screen streaming with a different face and voice. I'm sure there was some kind of emergency contingency in place for the eventuality of a catastrophic/total computer failure, but Queeg himself never existed.

I love the scene where Rimmer went on a vacation in the Red Dwarf with the scutters.

As an American, we got this on PBS late at night on the weekends. I remember watching reruns in the mid to late 90s and loved this show. This show and Are You Being Served were my first forays into British comedy and I have to say, I haven't found their equivalent since.

Edit: Oh, and Mr. Bean.

This, Dr. Who, and others were on Public TV in the USA at the end of the century. It is certainly a great introduction to the range of scifi after finding an interest in star trek, 2001, and the outer limits. Brilliant work.

Grown up with Red Dwarf as a kid, I love the series greatly, always has me smiling and laughing no matter how many times I watch it. The earlier series from 1 to 6 are my fav series, but the later series are greag and hilarious and fun too, especially the series from 10 to 12, those are true treasures to me. Hope more series might come out in the future, but even if there isn't.. I'll never get tired of this genius and incredible sitcom series.

I do love some Red Dwarf. In 2020, I was knocked down early with COVID, I was in a isolation ward for nearly 3 weeks and the boys from the dwarf kept me sane 😁

A great video, thank you!

The other thing I liked about red dwarf, was that the four crew members had free reign over the giant mining vessel.

I love that Red Dwarf was actually one of the most "realistic" (grounded in real science) sci-fis out there, esp in the early seasons. I think only the Expanse has done that more lol. Also depressingly realistic in its depiction of the future (interplanetary capitalism, corporatism, environmental collapse, cynicism etc. You have to laugh or you'd go mad!

One of the most underrated sci-fi shows ever!
