Effects:

Americans withdrawing money from bank > Bank closed as they had no money to offer > People could not pay their debt from installment buying and buying on margin > Businesses closed > People were laid off.

I remember my grandfather telling me about the Great Depression when I was in my teens. Though he didn't lose his job immediately, he knew that it was inevitable that it would happen and it did. He also mentioned that when he walked on the NYC streets, that he'd have to "scale" the buildings' walls because of people jumping from the windows to their deaths--they could have landed on him. It was very upsetting for him to watch all that while trying to protect himself.

People say you didn't include some information and that may be true; but the title of this video is "history BRIEF" and it's 4 min long, so it's obvious that only the main facts will be considered. At :27 "And America was prospering". It could be argued that the correct statement is that America THOUGHT it was prospering, but it was all a big bubble based on credit and speculation that could not last.... (Thanks for the vid; it's helpful)

Sadly, I can see a depression or similar heading our way, industry sold to other countries, people won't work dirty hand jobs so the land is struggling, dependence on internet and social platforms that produce nothing yet cost much . I try to be optimistic but it's hard to not see it all coming round again

No one ever mentions that the stock market recovered most of it's losses quickly but didn't reach it's bottom (down 89%) until 1932... The real crash was not in 1929, it took years to play out.

No mention of fractional reserve banking or the federal reserve? The risky loans would not have been made if it was not understood that the losses would be socialized.

And again, the stock mart crash did not cause the Great Depression. The market did recover. Commerce continues even if the stock market collapses. The cause of the Great Depression was The Tariff Act of 1930 (March 1930). This law collapsed trade between France, United Kingdom and the United States.
